Jardim da Amazônia

300 Kilometers north of Cuiaba, this nice family run lodge is located at the banks of the Rio Claro, a cristalclear river on the southern edge of the Amazon Basin.

Although the area has suffered with the expansion of sugar cane and soy bean plantations, the lodge sits in a large fragment of forest in the ecotone between the Cerrado and the Amazon, witch boasts a great diversity of plants and animals.

Therefore, the trees here are significantly shorter, making it easier to observe canopy species, as well as a wide variety of amazonian specialties. Some highlights include Black-girdled Barbet, Gould's Toucanet, Rufous-capped Nunlet, Tooth-billed Wren, Pink-throated Becard, White-browed Purpletuft, Amazonian Umbrellabird, Blue-cheeked Jacamar, Point-tailed Palmcreeper, Blue-necked and Paradise Tanagers, Slaty-capped Shrike Vireo, Crested Eagle, the recently described Cryptic Forest-Falcon and the rare and nearly mythical Cone-billed Tanager.
